 Volunteering

The Edge Café is a place where you can be yourself and belong. A place where recovery from drug and alcohol dependency is possible. Bringing people together, the Edge is a hub for building positive relationships and experiences. Giving each other social stability, we can watch it spread from our café into our lives and the world outside.

If you decide you want to volunteer at The Edge, once you have completed the form one of our lovely staff members will ask you to come in for an initial chat. This is not an interview, just a chance to get an idea of what you'd like to do. From there you can meet members of the team and get a feel for the project.

Volunteering at The Edge is a great way to gain new skills, increase confidence, whether you're looking to improve your CV, take on a new challenge or just to be part of a team!

We encourage volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and try to best match volunteering opportunities with individuals’ skills, experience and capability.

We have several different aspects of volunteering at The Edge.

  • Recovery Hub - Peer Mentor – If you are in recovery yourself from alcohol and/or substance misuse, or mental health issues, and you’d like to help others on their recovery journey, Peer Mentor volunteering may be for you. We work in partnership with CGL – the statutory drug & alcohol service, we provide accredited training and supervision and a beautiful place to volunteer.
  • Café – Kitchen/waiting staff - Learn new skills including: Barista training, food preparation and baking, cashier work and exemplary customer service. Full training will be provided.
  • Food Hub Volunteer - if you want to work to prevent food going to waste, whilst supporting people experiencing food poverty, this opportunity could be for you.
  • General – We are always looking for people to help us be the best we can. If you are able to run a one-off event, or a regular workshop or group, if you have a skill or hobby which is fun and/or therapeutic, why not join our team by facilitating regular or one-off sessions.

If you’d just like to get involved to give something back to your community, then please pop in for a chat with Sarah, our café manager, or Gail our Recovery Hub Manager.
